Alabaster table lamp ø 38 cm

A square block of alabaster set on a slender metal stem. This alabaster table lamp bases its presence on the stone itself: light does not escape from an open shade, but passes through its structure and reveals the pattern of veins. At 38 cm in diameter and 52 cm in height, it has a clear scale, so it sits well alongside a chest of drawers, console and bedside table. The plug and 230V power supply mean it works as soon as it is placed.

Why this lamp?

The alabaster shade acts as a light filter: the stone diffuses it in all directions and brightens the surroundings, instead of concentrating the glow in one spot.
The threaded fitting and round base are available in three steel and metal finishes, so you can easily match the tone of the lamp to accessories you have already chosen.

Design and materials

The form is simplicity itself: a cuboid shade with gently softened edges, a central column and a flat, round base. Alabaster has a milky, semi-transparent structure with a visible concentration of veins and subtle discolouration - no two pieces ever look the same, because the stone’s pattern is formed in nature, not on a production line. The shade is held by two metal brackets recessed into the sides of the stone, so there is not a single unnecessary detail, and the metal base gives the whole piece weight and reliable support. You notice this especially up close: the stone surface is matt and cool to the touch, the metal smooth and slightly glossy. In short, the form is subordinate to the material, not the other way round.

Light and comfort

Because the semi-transparent stone lets light pass through the whole block, you do not get a harsh streak under the shade or a glaring point when you look towards the lamp. The glow spreads softly to the sides and upwards, gently brightening the wall behind the fitting and the surface below it. The milky filter warms the colour, so a 2700 K bulb will give a cosy evening mood for conversation and reading in bed, while 3000 K works well at a desk when you need more focus. With the shade closed, the effect is worth viewing after dark with the main light off - that is when you can best see how strongly the stone itself glows. The whole unit runs at 230V and has a cable with a plug, so you can place it wherever light is missing without asking an electrician for permission.
