Alabaster pendant light, shade ø: 16 cm

Alabaster in place of clear glass gives this lantern shape a completely different depth: the light brings out the veining of the stone rather than revealing the inside of the shade. In the Prato model, the pale, elongated body is framed by copper details with an antique finish, and the whole fitting hangs from a chain. This is a light worth giving space to, so that both the pattern of the material and the decorative finials can be appreciated.

Design and materials

The shade has rounded corners and vertical divisions that give the stone body a sense of rhythm. It tapers towards the metal finials, recalling a traditional lantern, but with alabaster in place of transparent panels. The decorative metalwork and ceiling rose complement this look, while the antique copper finish contrasts with the white shade. The natural pattern of the stone varies from piece to piece, so no two are identical.

Light and comfort

When the light is switched on, the veining becomes more pronounced and the surface of the shade gains a luminous depth. Alabaster softens the light passing through it, but the white colour of the material alone does not determine the colour of the light - this depends on the light source used. A white shade should therefore not be equated with cool lighting. When hanging it above a table, position it so that the lower part of the light does not obscure the faces of people sitting opposite one another.

• Above a table in a classic dining room - the lantern shape and decorative copper details work well with a wooden tabletop, upholstered chairs and wall mouldings.
• Above a coffee table in the living room - this position allows the illuminated stone to be admired up close while keeping the light away from the main walkway.
• In a high-ceilinged hallway - the elongated body can accentuate the entrance axis, provided there is enough clearance beneath the fitting to walk freely.
