Alabaster wall light, width 12 cm

Some wall lights disappear into the background, and some organise the light zone. This alabaster wall light does the latter: 41 cm high at 12 cm wide, so it works as a vertical accent rather than an addition to the scheme. Light passes through the stone and loses its sharpness before it reaches the room, hence the milky glow that is visible on the wall itself too. The copper in the base keeps the form in check and provides a cooler counterpoint to the warm alabaster.

Why this lamp?

Alabaster instead of glass: light passes through the stone and is diffused, so it does not dazzle, even when you look at the fitting up close.
The vertical proportion of 41 cm height at 12 cm width lets you mount two wall lights on either side of the bed without taking up space on the wall.
230V power supply and hardwired wall mounting: connection to the wall wiring, with no extra components in between.
Three base finishes offer a choice between warm metal, bright nickel and black, so it is easier to match the fitting with the rest of the room.

Design and materials

The form is understated: a simple metal bracket and an elongated alabaster shade that runs vertically through most of the fitting’s height. The stone is not uniform; it has veins and variations in translucency, so under light its pattern changes depending on the viewing angle. Brushed copper is not mirror-like - it has a matt, slightly streaky grain and picks up fewer fingerprints than polished metal. The 12 cm by 41 cm dimension sounds modest, but in practice it is a slender, tall form that needs a scrap of wall rather than its entire surface.

Light and comfort

Alabaster acts as a natural filter: it breaks up a point light source into a soft glow and removes the sharpness that tires the eyes in the evening. There is no torch effect here - looking from the side you see illuminated stone, not a bare light source. A warm light colour brings out the milky grain of the stone, whereas with a cool, office-like temperature the alabaster turns grey, so this is one of those choices better planned together with the light source. The fitting runs at 230V and connects to ordinary wall wiring. If atmosphere matters to you more than the amount of light, this wall light does exactly that.

Where it fits

Bedroom, on both sides of the bed - the 41 cm height sets the light at eye level for a seated person, and the 12 cm width fits even on a narrow section of wall.
Hallway and entrance area - the slender form does not protrude into the walkway, and the illuminated alabaster gives soft light instead of a harsh point overhead.
Living room by the sofa - as a reading light to one side, when you do not want to put another floor lamp down.
Interiors in the japandi and minimalism spirit - stone and matt metal are materials that remain visible rather than dominant in such schemes.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

Does the fitting connect to ordinary wall wiring?

Yes. The wall light is designed for hardwired wall mounting and 230V operation, so it connects directly to the wiring, like any lighting point.

What are the shade and the metal elements made of?

Two materials are used in the construction: alabaster and copper. You choose the finish colour of the metal part at purchase; the shade remains alabaster.

What are the dimensions of this wall light?

Width 12 cm and height 41 cm. This is the only size in this model, the same for every colour.

Which finish colour should I choose?

You can choose from brushed copper, brushed nickel and matt black. If, after delivery, it turns out that the shade does not match your interior, you can return the lamp within 40 days without giving a reason.
